Anoushka Shankar
Anoushka Shankar is a British and American sitar player. She also sings. She was the youngest and first female to win an award from the British House of Commons Shield she's had 9 Grammy Awards nominations and was the first musician of Indian origin to play live on stage and also act as a host at the award ceremony. Anoushka is a new star on the rise in Indian sitar. She is both the student and daughter of Ravi Shankar. She was a child who bounded around from London in the UK to New Delhi. When she arrived in New Delhi, she made her debut when she was only thirteen years old. She graduated in 1999 from her high schooling within Encinitas CA. Anouskha was only 17 years old, has had an extremely successful recording and performing career. Her father has accompanied her on numerous occasions for many years. The year 1998 saw her debuted Anourag as her debut album as a solo artist. In 2002, she debuted her Grammy Nominated Live at Carnegie Hall. Her stage career is very extensive for she has appeared in all of the biggest venues in the world. Anoushka Shakar's work is not just limited to music. In 2002, she released a book entitled Bapi The love of My Live this is a picture-based biography, which gives a special honor to her late father Ravi Shankar. The year 2003 saw her was a part in Dance Like a Man as the Bharat Natyam artist. Anoushka is continuing to advance in her professional career, and there will be many other things to be expected from this talented woman. Anoushka Shankar was born and raised in England and spent the majority of her childhood in London and Delhi then moving to California in the state where she attended high school. In Delhi at his 75thbirthday celebration Anoushka first made an appearance performing the sitar in front of the audience at the age of four, following her nine year old father. As a part of her dad's band as they toured around the globe, Anoushka was able to accumulate a variety of experience performing at Carnegie Hall while still in her teens performing at Peter Gabriel's WOMAD festival, and also recording with George Harrison. The House of Commons Shield was presented to her by the British Parliament as the pre-eminent Asian Arts musician. She is the only woman and the youngest winner of this award.
